Takhrij Hadith 540: ""Do you know the rights…"

‘Amr ibn Shu'ayb narrated from his father, from his grandfather, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“
"Do you know the rights of a neighbor? If he seeks your help, help him. If he asks to borrow from you, lend to him. If he becomes poor, support him. If he becomes ill, visit him. If he dies, follow his funeral. If something good happens to him, congratulate him. If a calamity befalls him, console him. Do not build higher than his house and block the wind from him except with his permission. If you buy fruit, give some of it to him as a gift. If you do not do so, then bring it into your house discreetly, and do not let your child carry it openly so as to upset his child. Do not harm him with the smell of your cooking pot unless you share some of it with him." He then said: "Do you know the rights of a neighbor? By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, no one fully fulfills the rights of a neighbor except one upon whom Allah has mercy." He continued advising them concerning neighbors until they thought that he would make the neighbor an heir. Then he said: "Neighbors are of three types: one has three rights, another has two rights, and another has one right. The neighbor with three rights is the Muslim relative; he has the right of Islam, the right of neighborhood, and the right of kinship. The neighbor with two rights is the Muslim neighbor; he has the right of Islam and the right of neighborhood. The neighbor with one right is the non-Muslim neighbor; he has the right of neighborhood." They asked: "O Messenger of Allah, should we give them from the meat of our sacrificial offerings?" He replied: "The polytheists are not to be given from the sacrificial offerings of the Muslims."
