Takhrij Hadith 709: "Shall I tell you about…"

On the authority of Ibn A'bad, who said: ‘Ali said to me:

“
Shall I tell you about myself and Fatimah bint Muhammad, the daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who was among the most beloved of his family to him?" I said: "Yes". He said: "She used the hand mill until it left marks on her hands. She carried water in a waterskin until it left marks on her neck, and she swept the house until her clothes became dusty. When servants were brought to the Prophet ﷺ, I said to her: “If only you would go to your father and ask him for a servant”. So she went to him, but found people with him engaged in conversation, and returned. The next day, the Prophet ﷺ came to her and said: “What was your need?” She remained silent, so I said: “O Messenger of Allah, I will tell you. She has ground grain with the hand mill until it left marks on her hands, and she has carried the waterskin until it left marks on her neck. When servants came to you, I told her to come and ask you for a servant to spare her the hardship she is enduring”. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Fear Allah, O Fatimah, fulfill the obligatory duties of your Lord, perform the housework of your family, and when you go to your bed, glorify Allah thirty-three times (Subhān-Allāh), praise Allah thirty-three times (Al-Hamdulillāh), and magnify Allah thirty-four times (Allāhu Akbar)—that makes one hundred, and it is better for you than a servant”. She replied: “I am pleased with Allah and with His Messenger”.
