Takhrij Hadith 769: "I saw Yaʿla ibn Murrah…"

'Iyad Abu Ashras al-Sulami narrated:

“
I saw Yaʿla ibn Murrah after I had invited him to a meal. He came while observing a voluntary fast. The people began to eat, but he did not. I said to him: “By Allah, if we had known that you were fasting, we would not have troubled you (by inviting you)”. He replied: “Do not say that, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Accept your brother's invitation, for you will be in one of two situations: either you will find something good, and that is most deserving of your attendance; or you will find otherwise, in which case you should forbid it and enjoin what is good”.
