Takhrij Hadith 843: "When death approached Abu Bakr,…"
On the authority of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:
“
When death approached Abu Bakr, he seated me near his head and said: "O ‘Ali, when I die, wash me with the same hands with which you washed the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Perfume me, and take me to the house in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is buried, and seek permission to enter. If you see the door open for you, then bring me in [to be buried]; otherwise, take me back to the graveyards of the Muslims until Allah judges between His servants". ‘Ali continued: “So he was washed and shrouded, and I was the first to arrive at the door to seek permission. I said: "O Messenger of Allah, here is Abu Bakr seeking permission to enter". Whereupon I saw the door open, and I heard a voice calling out: "Bring the beloved to his beloved, for indeed, the beloved is longing for the beloved".”
