Takhrij Hadith 939: "The people were afflicted by…"
On the authority of Malik al-Dar—who was ‘Umar's keeper of the food stores—he said:
“
The people were afflicted by a drought during the caliphate of ‘Umar. A man came to the grave of the Prophet ﷺ and said: "O Messenger of Allah, ask Allah to send rain for your nation, for they are perishing". Then the man was visited in a dream and was told: "Go to ‘Umar, convey my greetings to him, and inform him that you will be given rain. Tell him: Be prudent! Be prudent!". So he went to ‘Umar and informed him. Thereupon, ‘Umar wept and said: "My Lord, I spare no effort except in that of which I am incapable".”
