Takhrij Hadith 1271: "A man from the desert…"

A man from the desert named Zahir used to bring gifts from the desert to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and whenever he was about to return, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would provide him with provisions. The Prophet ﷺ said: "Indeed, Zahir is our bedouin, and we are his townspeople." The Prophet ﷺ loved him, although he was not handsome. One day, the Prophet ﷺ came to him while he was selling his goods, embraced him from behind, and the man could not see who it was. He said: "Let me go! Who is this?" When he turned around and recognized the Prophet ﷺ, he pressed his back as closely as he could against the Prophet's chest. Then the Prophet ﷺ began saying: "Who will buy this slave?" Zahir replied: "O Messenger of Allah, then by Allah, you will find me worthless." The Prophet ﷺ said: "But in the sight of Allah, you are not worthless" or he said: "Rather, in the sight of Allah, you are precious."
