Takhrij Hadith 804: "My father narrated to me…"
On the authority of Sulayman ibn ‘Amr ibn al-Ahwas, who said:
“
My father narrated to me that he attended the Farewell Pilgrimage with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ praised and glorified Allah, then admonished and exhorted the people. In the course of his speech, he mentioned a matter saying: "Indeed, treat women well, for they are dependent upon you. You have no authority over them beyond that, unless they commit a clear act of immorality. If they do so, then forsake them in their beds and discipline them with a non-severe beating. But if they obey you, then do not seek any way against them. Indeed, you have rights over your wives, and your wives have rights over you. As for your right over your wives, they should not allow anyone whom you dislike to sit upon your bedding, nor should they admit into your homes anyone whom you dislike. And indeed, their right over you is that you treat them kindly with regard to their clothing and food".”
